Activities & Schedule

Along with lots of great cowboy and country music, there's a wealth of special activities happening at the Gene Autry Oklahoma Film & Music Festival.
Monte Hale, one of the last living "singing cowboys," was born in Ada, Oklahoma, on June 8, 1919 and  passed away on March 31, 2009.  Monte's brother Bill, fellow actor and friend Dale Berry and B-Western historian Bobby Copeland will be featured in our "Tribute to Monte Hale," as we honor Hales' accomplishments, share some wonderful moments from his life and discuss his influence on the entertainment industry and on Western fans. We have not yet set the date and time for this tribute but will do so soon, so please check back to this page for details.
We'll also be paying tribute to "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer," who turns 60 this year.  Author Judy Gail Krasnow, whose father, Hecky Krasnow,  was producer of the Autry recording of Rudolph.  Judy will be joined by Autry biographer Holly George-Warren to discuss and answer questions about Rudolph and Autry's role in his continuing popularity, as well as the delightful reindeer's influence on children through the ensuing decades.  In addition, everyone is invited to a special birthday party for Rudolph!  Watch this page for details.
Remember Gabby Hayes, Smiley Burnette, Fuzzy St. John, Pat Buttram, Pat Brady, Dub Taylor and all those other loveable sidekicks of the B-Westerns?  You'll have a chance to learn more about each one of those delightful characters during a program called "Sidekicks...You Gotta Love 'em." Our discussion panel will be comprised of Sandra Grabman, author of Pat Buttram, Rocking Chair Humorist, Bobby Copeland, whose new book, Gabby Hayes, was recently released and author/B-Western historian Mike Nevins.  John Buttram, nephew of Pat, will make a guest appearance as well.  Watch this page for scheduling details.

These are only three of the special programs waiting for your entertainment and learning appreciation at the 2009 Gene Autry Oklahoma Film & Music Festival.  See you there!
