Ambassadors Group Formed in Wichita Falls, Texas
Super volunteers Ed & Elizabeth Henderson of Wichita Falls are putting together a group of folks who are interested in cowboy heritage, films, lifestyle, etc.  They'll be meeting for lunch from time to time to talk about what they love best....cowboys and the Gene Autry Oklahoma Museum and its events.  "Cowboy Ed" has been invited to talk about the Western lifestyle by civic groups, senior centers and radio stations.
If you think that this type of activity would be of interest in your community, please give us a holler and we'll send you information and support materials and help you get started.

(Summer Jamboree)

Boogie, Bid & Buy…at the Gene Autry Oklahoma Museum’s Summer Jamboree Fundraiser, June 21st

In beautiful uptown Gene Autry, Oklahoma, that tiny town just northeast of Ardmore, there’s a unique museum that’s dedicated to preserving the legacy of the singing cowboys of the B Western films of the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s.  Area residents are invited to visit the Gene Autry Oklahoma Museum during its “Summer Jamboree” fundraiser, held Saturday, June 21st from noon to 6:15 p.m.

It’s an afternoon of music and fun that features Oklahoma Balladeer Les Gilliam from Ponca City as headline performer and a special “Goodies” Auction with Ardmore’s comic auctioneer Joe Tibbs from Ardmore.

The fun and festivity of the “Summer Jamboree” are designed to raise funds for the Museum’s programs and operation.  There’s no admission charge, but donations will be encouraged.

The “Summer Jamboree” is hosted by yodeling champion Janet McBride from Forney, Texas, and features country duo Tex & Mary from Streetman, Texas; Pat Boilesen from Albion, Nebraska; Rob Carter, from Springer, Oklahoma; Dave Barron and Chris Miller from Ardmore, Oklahoma; Buck Helton, Dallas, Texas; Mike Shirley from Plano, Texas; and CJ Alldredge from Lone Grove, Oklahoma.

Music and cowboy poetry performances begin at noon, the “Goodies Auction” will begin at approximately 3:30 p.m. and Les Gilliam’s performance will begin at about 5:30 p.m.

“This is a great opportunity for folks to come out and see what a treasure we have in the Gene Autry Oklahoma Museum,” said Mary Schutz, museum volunteer who works on museum programs and publicity.  “Certainly not ‘stuffy,’ this museum is an ode to a bygone era in which movie cowboys provided heroes for youngsters and Western films were a popular form of entertainment.  We invite area residents to join us and see what this American treasure is all about.  We guarantee that you’ll have a great time.”

To get to the Gene Autry Oklahoma Museum, take exit 40 off Interstate 35, go eight miles east on Hwy 53, two miles south on Happy Trails and two miles east on Tumbleweed Road. For more information, call the Museum at 580-294-3047.
