In an effort to teach young people about our country's Western heritage, Western music and films, as well as writing poetry and stories, Festival producers work with schools across Carter County, Oklahoma, where Gene Autry is located, to set up experiences for students related to the event. These may include performances at some of the schools, invitations to schools to bring busloads to the event free-of-charge, and contests related to story or poetry writing. In addition, we host a Young Entertainers' Showcase each spring, in an effort to locate and encourage talented young people who are interested in performing Western or country music, poetry or storytelling. We invite selected youngsters from that showcase to participate in the Young Entertainers Spotlight show at the Film & Music Festival.- Wednesday afternoon performances in schools by Festival entertainers
