....a Brand New Event Featuring Young Folks This new event brings together young folks and their families for an afternoon of showcases for young talent, cowboy films and professional performances by two young entertainers. It all happens Saturday, April 19th, beginning at 1 p.m. We've combined our showcase for young entertainers, a workshop for youngsters interested in western or country music or cowboy poetry, cowboy films and a professional performance featuring singer/guitarist Chelsea Beck (Dover, OK) and fiddler Jake Simpson (Skiatook, OK) for this special event. Admission to the event is $5 per person for adults and $3 per person for youngsters 16 and under. (Young entertainers who are involved in the showcase and their parents or guardians are admitted without charge.) Food concessions will be available in the Senior Center, located next to the Museum's auditorium. (See schedule of activities below.)
Showcase for Young Entertainers
We're sending details about the showcase to schools in Carter County, Oklahoma, and to other area schools in Oklahoma as well as to newspapers and radio stations across the state. Youngsters who would like to participate in our showcase, should contact the Museum (580-294-3047) to sign up. Spots are limited so you should call soon.
Showcase participants are asked to perform two selections. Vocalists may sing to tracks if they don't play an instrument well enough to accompany themselves. A professional sound technician will be running sound for the showcase participants. They will receive constructive criticism from our showcase host, champion yodeler Janet McBride.
This activity is a showcase, not a contest, and no prizes will be awarded. Our endeavor is to find young people whose talent fits in with the theme of our various events and invite them to participate in those events.
